It's jam but good jam-with a few better moments you don't often find in films like this, and Mr. Claude Rains, as the farmers' leader, is chiefly responsible for these. Full Review

It's a vigorous and exciting film which manages to present a great deal of technical and historical detail without crippling the narrative. The technicolor isn't just gorgeous here - it's sharp and firm and well balanced. Full Review

Description by

A Sweeping historical epic, Gold Is Where You Find It tells the true story of the 1870s through the lens of a romance between a mining engineer (George Brent) and a wealthy landowners daughter (Olivia de Havilland). Director Michael Curtiz shows a sure hand with spectacle, especially in the climactic scene depicting a massive dam explosion. The spectacle is intensified by the same three-strip Technicolor process that helped make The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (both also directed by Curtiz) so memorable.
