Originally released in 1983, CREST OF A WAVE is one of contemporary saxophonist Bill Evans's earliest sessions as a leader, and it's a fine slice of funky-strutting, groove-laden crossover jazz. His vigorous, lithe sax (tenor and soprano, also flute) gets top-shelf support from a couple of former Pat Metheny band members, Danny Gottleib and Mark Egan, as well as former Weather Report percussionist Manolo Badrena, who adds spice and zip to the proceedings.
