Truly terrible. Full Review

The breakout stars were Heat Miser and Snow Miser, bitter rivals and brothers with control over the elements. Their jaunty tune ranks among the catchiest original songs that a Rankin-Bass production ever yielded. Full Review

While Jolly Old Saint Nick and his companions are featured quite heavily, Rankin-Bass still manages to sneak in a good helping of non-specific pagan deities. Full Review

Rating: 9/10 -- It's certainly one of my favorite of the Rankin/Bass specials. Full Review

What's more fun than stop-motion animated holiday movies? Absolutely nothing... It also features a badass Mrs. Claus basically trying to save Christmas. Full Review

The best one of all - and surely we can all agree on this one - is The Year Without A Santa Claus. On top of being an animated Christmas special, it's also a musical with songs like I Could Be Santa Claus and Blue Christmas. Full Review

Product Description:

Feeling exhausted and unappreciated by the children of the world, Santa Claus decides to take a year off from Christmas. Unable to rouse him from his sickbed, Mrs. Claus sends elves Jingle and Jangle and the reindeer Vixen to bring back proof that children still hold faith and admiration for Christmas. After narrowly escaping the clutches of villains Heat Miser and Snow Miser, the elves arrive in South Town, USA. There they are immediately ticketed by a policeman, and Vixen is thrown into an animal pound. When Santa Claus learns of their perils, he jumps from his bed and goes to the rescue. Posing as a human, the sickly Santa searches for Jingle, Jangle, and Vixen, and in his search he finds the best medicine of all, a generous family who still believes in the spirit of Christmas.

Featuring the voices of Shirley Booth, Mickey Rooney, and the late great Dick Shawn, THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS is a poignant film that criticizes society's waning generosity for others. As the children of the world take the gift of giving for granted, it's up to the team of Rankin and Bass to show them what it would be like if Christmas ceased to exist.

Description by Warner Home Video:

At the North Pole, the Christmas rush is on. Everyone from elves to reindeer are merrily preparing for Santa Claus's yearly sleigh ride. Everyone except Santa! Feeling forgotten by the children of the world, old St. Nick decides to skip his gift-giving journey and take a vacation. Eager to help, Mrs. Claus and two spunky little elves set out to see to where all the season's cheer has disappeared. Aided by a magical snowfall, they reawaken the spirit of Christmas in children's hearts and put Santa back in action.
