The Guardian - 02/01/2018
4 stars out of 5 -- "[H]ere is an unassumingly excellent new film version of RC Sherriff’s classic 1928 stage play....It is expertly cast and really well acted: forthright, powerful, heartfelt."

"[T]he film serves to illuminate how very different the British army -- or any army -- was then, with its class distinctions and comparatively polite conversational modes, and how differently wars are now fought."

Product Description:
In the trenches of Northern France toward the end of World War I, a group of British soldiers anxiously await a rumored attack by German troops. Demoralized by the seemingly endless combat, their leader, Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin), shows signs of mental deterioration. Asa Butterfield and Paul Bettany co-star. This film was adapted from the play by R.C. Sherriff, and was directed by Saul Dibb.
