Description by

Based on the landmark memoir by John Howard Griffin, Black Like Me stars James Whitmore as Griffin, who medically altered his pigment and, with the help of a sunlamp, reinvented himself as an itinerant black writer navigating his way through Mississippi and Alabama. Along the way he experienced firsthand both crushing racism and the incredible life force of the Afro-American communities. Thanks to a full restoration from the original negative, this is the first time Black Like Me has been released on DVD.

Product Description:

Based on a true story and best-selling book by John Howard Griffin, a white writer colors his skin to obtain a firsthand account of racial hatred in America. Woefully, not yet a reminder of times gone by.

Plot Synopsis:

Based on a true story and best-selling accountl by John Howard Griffin, this film tells of the virulent racism plaguing America in the 1960s. John Finley Horton darkens his white skin and succeeds in "passing-for-Negro." Hitchhiking across the U.S., Horton tries to experience life in white America from a Black man's point of view. Refused employment, taunted by whites, slighted by employers and stereotyped sexually, he learns more about race prejudice than he ever imagined possible.
