When Peter Cetera left Chicago for a successful solo career, fans wondered if the long-running band could continue to deliver the goods. This 1986 release, replacing Cetera with Jason Scheff, answered the question with a strong if not resounding "yes." The album produced two Top 40 singles ("Will You Still Love Me" and "If She Would Have Been Faithful") and took the band in a higher-tech direction, without leaving behind the kind of mellow tunefulness that earned them acclaim and longevity in the first place. That said, CHICAGO 18 was probably the last brisk-selling release of the band's career, as public taste veered off into different avenues.
