She plays Jean Latimer, whose father Steve (William Powell in one of his final film roles) is a brilliant yet hard-drinking trial lawyer who has gotten rich defending mobsters and has determined to steer his smart but headstrong daughter away from the darker side. Though the elder Latimer tries his best to intervene, Jean falls hard for one of his shady clients (Fernando Lamas), a path that leads not only to a family rift as well as courtroom fireworks. Gig Young and James Whitmore co-star.

Elizabeth Taylor plays the spoiled daughter of a hard-drinking criminal lawyer who falls for her father's client, an underground syndicate boss.

Plot Synopsis:

Elizabeth Taylor stars as a bratty rich girl named Jean Latimer.
Her father is a criminal attorney, and one of his clients, a mobster named Victor, starts romancing her. Victor plans eventually to put his illegal activities behind him and marry Jean.
But she must decide whether his intentions are genuine or if she should entertain courtship offers from another suitor.
