Rating: 4/5 -- Mary and the Witch's Flower is basically a greatest hits album of Studio Ghibli tropes and elements, but it's a very well-assembled one that proves if the formula ain't broke, why bother fixing it? Full Review
The AU Review

Rating: 3/5 -- It is another example of that remarkable way in which Japanese animation is reviving the memory of classic English children's literature from the 1960s and 70s - otherwise forgotten in its native land. Full Review
Rating: 3/5 -- Riotous fun and an affecting story, demonstrating that Studio Ponoc is bursting with creative potential. Full Review

[A] charming children’s entertainment....The rustling forests and voluptuous clouds recall the work of Hayao Miyazaki...
New York Times
A young girl (voice of Ruby Barnhil) plucks a rare flower in the woods near her great aunt's house. She gains special powers and is transported to a school for witches and wizards, but soon learns that the institution is harboring a dark secret. Hiromasa Yonebayashi directed this animated fantasy, which is adapted from the novel THE LITTLE BROOMSTICK by Mary Stewart. Kate Winslet, Jim Broadbent, Ewen Bremner, and Louis Ashbourne Serkis also lend their voices.
