Chicago Sun-Times - 02/05/2015
3.5 stars out of 4 -- "THE VOICES is a deeply warped, darkly funny and thoroughly depraved horror comedy....Ryan Reynolds gives one of his best performances as Jerry..." - 02/06/2015
3 star out of 4 -- "[Reynolds] does his best work yet here in Satrapi's odd, pitch-black comedy about a man who talks to his dog and cat. And they talk back."
Film Comment - 02/05/2015
"Satrapi's powers of invention keep you watching; so does Reynolds's remarkable range..."
Total Film - 03/16/2015
3 stars out of 5 -- "With every beat pitched subtly ‘off’ without collapsing into geek-freak caricature, Reynolds finds that sweet spot where excessive sincerity can spook..."
Empire - 03/13/2015
"[T]he underrated Reynolds launches a full-force attack on his role, and there are staggering stylised moments..."

Product Description:

An amiable shipping clerk's optimistic exterior masks a dark secret that leads to tragic repercussions when he stops taking his anti-psychotic meds in this satirical horror comedy from Marjane Satrapu. Jerry (Ryan Reynolds) lives in the picturesque American town of Milton, where he earns his living in a factory that produces bathtubs and toilets. Jerry pines for his pretty co-worker, Fiona (Gemma Arterton), who works in accounting and barely acknowledges his existence. Optimistic that he can win her affections after he's recruited to help organize an office work party, Jerry stops taking the medications prescribed to him by his psychiatrist (Jacki Weaver), and that's when the voices start. Though his loyal dog offers Jerry comforting words of reassurance, his cynical cat continually reminds him that he is deeply deranged and completely unworthy of love. Later, when Jerry finally manages to get Fiona alone, the sudden and unexpectedly grim turn of events sends Jerry plummeting down a particularly dark path. Anna Kendrick co-stars
