Where Jerry Goldsmith's score for THE MUMMY centered on mystery and suspense, and Alan Silvestri's THE MUMMY RETURNS accentuated the high-octane action, Randy Edelman's THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR focuses on wide-eyed, youthful adventure. The use of low-toned instruments, like oboes and tubas, echoes the classic Universal monster films of the 1930s and 1940s. In addition, Edelman skillfully utilizes the cello to create a defined Asian ambience. The result is a free-spirited and sweeping score, thrusting the listener directly into the action.
