Impossible to classify, it's a war movie with a love story that only flowers in its beginning and then in its closing moments. Full Review

Without ever surrendering its deadpan naturalism, La France becomes increasingly poetic: The seasons change, the landscape grows barren, and the stars in the sky take their names from the dead men below. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Simultaneously avant garde and down to earth, the somber film is anchored by spontaneous musical eruptions on its more elusive end and by Sylvie Testudâ(TM)s tactile performance. Full Review

Product Description:

Sylvie Testud (LA VIE EN ROSE) stars in this French romantic drama set in World War I. When Camille (Testud) gets word from her husband that he is in danger, the young woman sets off in search of her love. But since wives aren't allowed on the front lines, Camille successfully disguises herself as a boy so she can get as close to the battle--and hopefully her husband--as possible. Though LA FRANCE takes place in 1917, the film features characters singing anachronistic pop music that fits surprisingly well within the movie's narrative.
